Andalucía received two per cent more international tourists during the first quarter of this year than last year, some 1,3 million visitors. Even though during March the number of tourists decreased three per cent from the previous year, the overall trend of the first quarter was of growth. Nevertheless, this two per cent increase in Andalusian tourism is significantly less that the 5.4 per cent increase in tourism in the whole of Spain. In light of the general continuing increase in tourism, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce has confirmed that the terrorist attacks of March 11th have not had a negative effect on tourism in Madrid. The Canary Islands continue to be the most popular Spanish tourist destination with Cataluña following close behind.
