Marbella Town Hall is introducing an anti-smoking campaign aimed at young people.
The departments involved in the campaign are Sports and Youth and Social Welfare, together with the local independent organisation of ‘Marbella Solidaria’.
The programme will be presented in six schools to warn youngsters of the dangers of smoking. Schools participating are Nueva Andalucia, Bahia de Marbella, Vega del Mar, Sierra Blanca, Rio Verde and Guadalpin.
At an awards ceremony at the town hall, Alexandra Vicedo, a pupil from a local secondary school who won the competition for the best poster advertising the campaign, was presented with a Wii Nintendo as a prize by councillors Angel Mora, Antonio Maiz and Mariana Alvarez. Francisco Rumbao and Francisco Castaneda of ‘Marbella Solidaria’ were also present.
The councillors stated that young people are at greatest risk for starting to take drugs and smoking and need to become aware of the dangers.
The aim of the campaign is to reduce the probability of so many youngsters taking up this unhealthy habit when young.
As a part of the campaign, two specialist doctors from the Costa del Sol Hospital will be present at a stand on the Paseo de la Alameda for a week, offering advice and handing out information leaflets on the negative aspects of smoking. |
