Cartama helps the self-employed

This Spanish News Item in English was published on : Friday, May 30, 2008 (ID:3065)

CARTAMA residents who wish to start their own businesses will find it easier to do so thanks to grants from the Provincial Goverment.

Cartama Town Hall presented their ‘Project to Promote Self-Employment’, which is part of a plan designed by the Junta de Andalucia to help people who are, or wish to be, self employed. The mayor, Jorge Gallardo, attended the inauguration, together with Jose Luis Escobar, director of the Employment Policies Service, Lola Vera, the coordinator of the programme and local employment specialists.

Grants of up to 6,000 euros will be available for those who are unemployed and have been actively seeking work, if they decide to set up their own business.

The initiative is being introduced in 14 towns in Malaga province and is designed to create more self-employment, especially in sectors which are currently in demand, such as child care, caring for dependants, information and communication technologies, helping youths with problems entering society, home improvement or local commerce.

There are three stages to the programme which include information and training, setting up and promoting projects and finally consolidating businesses.

For more information, anyone interested can contact the local development area (592 428 502), Andalucia Orienta (952 427 096) or the Social Rights and Employment Policies Department (952 133 637).
