Cartama is to develop an industrial and commercial area of 134,000 square metres near to the railway station. The Councillor for Development, Jorge Gallardo, announced that two partial plans for industrial development in the area remain in the pipeline.
One of them covers an area of 83,000 square metres and is next to a car depot; the other is located in the grounds of the ‘Satgama’ dairy factory and covers 51,000 square metres. However, according to Gallardo, the developer is keen to begin this project as soon as possible.
The councillor explained that the idea will be to develop the entire perimeter area around the factory and create a shopping centre along the lines of Malaga Nostrum, which would unite the industrialized areas with the commercial areas.
Gallardo hesitated to commit to a firm date for beginning work as the formal proceedings have only recently been launched but he did confirm that, in the very near future, the council intended to give planning permission for the development of a supermarket for the chain, ‘Lidl’. |
