NEW regulations aimed at promoting civic and social participation were introduced recently by Councillor Maria del Carmen Sanchez and the deputy mayor of Coin, Andres Merida.
The aim is to promote the involvement and cooperation of the local residents of Coin, in different areas of the council. The norm suggests the creation of a series of smaller councils, wherein citizens can have the opportunity to debate and be involved in different civic affairs.
These councils would address issues relating to sports, culture, education, women, social welfare, environment and public works, childhood and youth. According to the proposal, these boards would meet twice a year and be under the supervision of the mayor, the representative of the specific board, an official from the council and a representative registered in the municipality.
On the other hand there are proposals aimed at considering the creation of a major council for the city, which would meet every six months to discuss plans of action, budgets and investments in the locality. This council would represent all the smaller ones combined. |
