COIN Town Hall has reported the theft of 40 manhole covers from local streets, with losses of up to 6,000 euros plus the obvious danger to pedestrians.
It seems that scrap metal thieves have been responsible for the offence, which has mainly affected La Fuensanta, the area near the cemetery and local industrial estates, as the ‘punto limpio’ (clean spot, area for dumping household appliances and other waste products) was broken into and metal bars, wheels, lampposts and other metallic objects were stolen.
The mayor, Gabriel Clavijo, has asked that local people report this type of event, as it represents great losses for the town, as well as the fact that it can be dangerous for local people who could fall down a manhole.
Local Police are investigating and the Town Hall has begun to replace the covers. |
