In the age of technology and innovation, the traditional institution of hand-delivered mail will not fade quietly into the background. In fact, Correos (the Spanish Post Office) has scheduled an extension of its branches, with two new offices to open in Marbella, and a complete renovation of its San Pedro office.
The new offices will be situated in the northern zone of Marbella, with the first and bigger branch situated in Las Albarizas, and the second and smaller office being in Las Chapas. These two new offices will not affect the three currently existing branches in Marbella, which are in Calle Jacinto Benavente, Nueva Andalucia, and in El Corte Inglés.
The renovation in San Pedro will force Correos to rent temporary space while work is being carried out.
José Luis Prado Linero explains that Correos is far from seeing itself ousted by the electronic market - in fact Correos finds is busier than ever. He gives as an example the increase in the delivery of packages as a consequence of the boom in online shopping.
Among other projected renovations for Correos, Prado plans to add affordable telephone centres to its list of services. This service is widely used by foreigners and the growing immigrant population to maintain contact with family and friends abroad.
The additional offices will also bring about the addition of nine job opportunities, proving furthermore that in the age of electronics, the traditional institutions are not so readily forgotten.
